Friday 8/28/2026 809 am - whale at mori point, whales by pier

Friday 8/28/2026. There is a whale right at the tip of Mori Point. Just saw it spout twice so far. I am up on Roberts Road and just checked Linda Mar and Rockaway - no whales in either of those spots. But through binoculars I see that Mori Point whale north of me. David mentioned whales are in the feed in the vicinity of the pier and Larry mentioned that as well so I'm going to head to that area. Its overcast but visibility is good , no blocking fog, ocean surface relatively calm
 
8:30 a.m. There are two humpback whales off Sharp Park Beach close in. They are not very active at the moment, but they're kind of doing north-south laps sometimes going down toward mori point, sometimes turning around coming back toward the pier. Not a lot of lunging yet, but they're in pretty close less than one PI, ER length
 
8:35 a.m. I just took a peek on the north side of the pier and I'm not seeing any whales there. So I'm going to walk back to Rosa on the south side of the pier and watch the whales she's watching over there
 
Friday 8/28/2026. 8:41 a.m.. Sharp Park Beach is a good place to be. Right now. There are four humpback whales stretched along the beach and they're kind of roaming around between mori point and the pier at the moment. There are at least two of them that are not too far south of the sharp Park Beach flagpole. We have a small and growing watch party down on Sharp Park Beach watching these whales. Some of them are lunging
 
8:48 a.m. We are in a bit of a lull as the whales that were lunging have taken a break. Some of them have moved southward toward mori point. I think our watch watch party is going to basically hang out here at shore Park Beach. Keep an eye on things. Some of us might go down towards mori but at the moment there are still whales here off shark Park Beach. They've just had a downtick in level of activity. Not far out though. Many of them are one pier length out or a little closer. Just passive at the moment
 
853 a.m. I am following two of these whales as they are moving south toward mori point. They've moved out a little farther actually now so around 1.5 PIE lengths out. One of them is just south of mori point and it just lunged
 
907 am there are still whales here at Sharp Park Beach. One just north of mori point . Another one just south of sharp Park Beach flagpole . About one pier length out for each. No crazy activity . Some infrequent lunhing
 
922 am things have slowed down a lot here at Sharp Park Beach. At the moment I've lost sight of the whales . Not sure if they moved farther out or moved north... I'm looking....
 
Friday 8/28/26. 9:55 a.m. Sharp Park Beach update. It has been pretty slow down here for a while now. There is at least one humpback here doing north-south laps between mori point and the pier but it is being very very passive. I am getting ready to head to other spots
 
Friday 8/28/2026. 10:20 a.m. If you see A small gray boat with a yellow research flag on it that is a legit Marine Mammal center boat called the Shirley. We are watching it now along with the whale very close to shore just north of the Esplanade RV park less than one PIEER lengths. So if you see that little gray boat approaching whales, that's legit and it's a research boat
 
1034 a.m. So there is still a humpback whale basically at the post office off Esplanade and it is near that little gray marine mammal center boat pretty passive right now and it is a little bit over 1 pier lengths more active so there is a whale here off Esplanade but not doing a whole lot at the moment
 
10:48 a.m. We have a watch party rolling on Esplanade Avenue a little bit south of Manor drive. There are still at least two humpback whales here, maybe three and they're pretty close in one of them's about 1 pier length out from us. Not a lot of activity right now that research boat is still here. The little gray one with the yellow research flag
 
Friday 8:00/28/2026. 11/27 a.m. Update. A whale just lunged off the North End of the Esplanade RV park about 1pier lengths about 1.5 PIE lengths out. And there are a couple more whales scattered along Esplanade that are more passive so definitely from the RV park all the way up through Ocean Air Apartments there are some whales. Some are fairly close in some passive some active
 
11:42 a.m. There is a whale doing a lot of lunging right at the North End of the Esplanade RV park about 1:00 pier lengthen or maybe a little less than that. It has been doing a lot of lunging
 
1157 a.m. There are now two humpback whales at the North End of the Esplanade RV park. One is about 1.5 PIE a little closer. They had been doing some lunging as recently as 5 minutes ago or so. Right now they've kind of slipped back into passive mode, but they're basically milling around here at the North End of the RV park
 
Friday 8/28/2026 12:27 p.m. There is a humpback whale just north of the Esplanade RV park about 1 pier length out doing some lunging. There are also some additional humpback whales in the area stretched along Esplanade Avenue and one or two along the RV park. Some of them are pretty passive or few are farther out, but in general right now this stretch along Esplanade from the RV park up through Ocean Air is a good spot to be. And in particular right now there's one whale doing some lunging just north of the RV park
 
12:47 p.m. this whale is still at the North End of the RV park still active. Only one PIEER length out. Maybe even a little closer
 
1253 pm I am heading home so I wanted to give an update. There is a humpback whale less than one pier length from shore right at the post office -- Esplanade avenue and Manor drive -- doing some lunging. There are additional whales here as well stretched along Esplanade, one is off the north end of the RV park. This Esplanade ave/RV park area is a good place to e right now with some lunging activity going on. I'm headed home but there is a watch party rolling just north of the RV park
